Posted by Royal Flush Poker @ 12:20 PM, Tuesday May 13th, 2008

Mike Matusow is a very interesting Poker Pro character and certainly one who is not averse to drawing attention to himself at the poker tables, he is nicknamed ‘The Mouth’ due to his habit of constantly talking whilst playing poker.

To the casual viewer he may perhaps come across as slightly arrogant but I don’t feel that this is the case really, I think Mike just enjoys winding his opponents up a little bit and engaging in some sparring of the verbal kind whilst the real poker battle is taking place on the felt.

Mike Matusow was born in Los Angeles in 1968 and it is well documented that he has always had a strong competitive streak and enjoyed many hobbies where he could compete with others.

It wasn’t until later though that he discovered poker, which quickly became his primary outlet for his need to compete and succeed against others. Mike spent some time working as a poker card dealer and used this to his advantage whilst developing his pkr.com game, going on to compete and win in local pkr.com tournaments, from there he continued to move up the ladder until eventually in 1997 he entered his first WSOP event in Omaha, Mike had a great tournament and finished 2nd place to the great Scotty Nguyen and his poker career has grown on from there.

Finishing second place in that poker event lead to Mike later winning two World Series bracelets for first place finishes in the following years and claiming the 2005 WSOP tournament of champions title too.

Mike Matusow also finished 9th place in the main poker pro event that year, and finished 6th in 2001, which, considering the size of the field of players, is an outstanding achievment so look out for Mike Matusow at major upcoming tournaments, and if you can’t see him anywhere, try listening out instead, and you might just have more luck.

www.pkr.com is second to none in terms of graphics and user experience. If you want to be a Poker Pro just like Mike Matusow, there is no better place to refine your skills than at pkr.com.

With this line of employment came the opportunity to watch good poker players in action, and Scotty paid close attention before beginning to try his hand at the game himself. After time spent honing his skills at smaller games, he moved up to bigger tables and before long, was supporting his family from his poker playing with relative ease, as his talent continued to grow.

It was only a matter of time before Scotty made the journey to the World Series and once he did, it didn’t take long for him to make his mark, as he went on to win the 1998 main event in what was one of pokers truly magic moments. After moving all in against his opponent Kevin McBride he declared ‘You call it’s gonna be all over baby’ which his opponent promptly did, losing to Scottys full house.

It took Scotty until 2006 however to win a WPT event and become one of only a handful of people to hold a WPT title as well as being a World Series main event winner, the 2007 main event wasn’t far away from bringing Scotty his 2nd main event title too as he managed to finish in 11th place out of a field of over 6,000 players. For now however he will have to be happy with his 4 bracelets and tournament earnings estimated at over $7,000,000 which is an excellent poker career thus far by anyones standards.

Scotty still competes in many tournaments every year and so you can be sure that those previously mentioned figures will grow further still, as the charismatic, ever smiling Scotty Nguyen, continues to elevate his name to being amongst the all time greats of the game.

Player Profile on Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson

Posted by Royal Flush Poker @ 12:00 AM, Tuesday Apr 22nd, 2008

Chris Ferguson was born on the 11th of April 1963 in California and has a very calculating style of playing poker in that he concentrates strongly on carefully developed theories of the game and mathematical probability, he may have had some influence from his parents there, with his father teaching theoretical probability, and both his parents having a degree in mathematics. He is known on the poker circuit as ‘Jesus’ due to his beard and long dark hair and is part of ?Full Tilts? team of poker pros, he also has another interesting talent in that he can chop through fruit and vegetables by throwing playing card at them.

Over the years Chris Ferguson has become one of the most highly respected pros around and has an excellent record at the WSOP with over 50 finishes in the money and five bracelets to his name, including the main event title which he won in 2000. Considering all these bracelets were won between the year 2000 and 2003, this gives you an idea of what Chris could be capable of achieving in the next few years if he finds another good run of winning form.

His live tournament earnings so far stand at over $6.5 million, which is an impressive amount indeed from tournaments alone. Chris continues to be a regular feature at major tournaments each year, with his foreboding eyes peering out from his dark hat and flowing hair, and it would be great to see him have another successful year at the World Series this time around.
