Pkr.com Review

Posted by Royal Flush Poker @ 12:00 AM, Monday Mar 30th, 2009

To me, www.pkr.com represents the forefront of adavances in online poker play. What they have achieved in terms of creating a fantastic visual experience cannot be understated, and I cannot see any reason why they won’t go on to be the best poker room anywhere online. Almost all of my time playing online poker is spent at PKR, and if you enjoy Holdem or Omaha, you will find the tournament you are looking for here.

There are of course cash games as well as tournaments, and these cover all the usual blind levels you would expect.
The lobby is easy to navigate and the tournament listings offer a diverse choice in the form of terminator bounty tournaments, rebuys, regular tournaments and much more. Points are also accumulated as you play for real money, giving you the chance to save up for items from a great selection in their online store.

If I were to look for any negatives with pkr.com, the only thing that springs to mind is that it would be nice to see another game added such as 5 Card Draw. Other than this though, I cannot find fault, as the site is dynamic, enjoyable, and reliable in every sense from my experiences.
Gesturing to your opponents and having the option for your character to speak from a list of key phrases is very novel, but it also provides a more realistic feel to the action. When you check your hole cards, the other players see you doing so, this is important too because it can provide a tell, and is just one example of the innovative new ways www.pkr.com have changed the face of online poker for the better.

First and foremost, I think it is important to mention the visual aspect of playing on a site like www.pkr.com. I have personally found it rather mundane going back to playing on sites with simple graphics and avatars. The enjoyment to be had from redesigning your player and creating a profile that fits what you want, is only part of the picture of course. Being able to prompt your character to gesture and speak at the tables is very novel too and creates an extra enjoyment factor to the game.

Aside from these positive points, www.pkr.com excels in several areas. I think they’re 24/7 support with live chat options is good too, as there are often times when the FAQ’s section simply cannot solve your problem. Player traffic on the site is strong too with most games (especially Holdem) filling up pretty quickly. The first time deposit bonus is around the industry average, and there is a points system in place with an opporunity to buy some great merchandise from their online store too.

There is a tournament schedule at pkr.com which is packed with different types of tournament, freerolls and large guaranteed tournaments are ongoing too. www.pkr.com is currently my favoured site to play on and I suspect that will not change in the near future. The only negative point I can say about the site is that only Holdem and Omaha are offered and this is a slight let down I have to say.

Other than that though, I would recommend the site highly, and can only hope they improve further in the coming months.

Skypoker.co.uk Review

Posted by Royal Flush Poker @ 12:00 AM, Friday Mar 20th, 2009

There are a few players at my local live game who play most of their poker with Sky Poker, and I have to say that I like the site myself, although other poker rooms have really raised the bar in recent years. I should first mention that Sky Poker offers a first time deposit bonus of 100% up to an amount of £500. This is released as you earn FPP’s (frequent player points) during your first 30 days onsite.

Help and support is of a high standard at www.skypoker.co.uk too, with telephone, e-mail, and live chat options available 24/7.
One of the strong points of Sky poker in my opinion, will always be the fact that they have a television channel showing special tournaments. The opportunity that this gives for learning to better your game, as well as the potential pride of seeing yourself playing poker on telly cannot be underestimated. There are numerous freerolls and also poker schooling available onsite too which all helps to make new players feel welcome and is an important part of expanding a customer base.

The poker league is another good promotional offer to have running on a regular basis, and there are several satellites running to land based events too. That said, I think there could be more in the way of imaginative promotions. Overall, I have to say that there is a lot to like about skypoker.co.uk and although I do not play most of my online poker here, I think this site is certainly a good one.

Poker.ladbrokes.com – Case Study 4

Posted by Royal Flush Poker @ 12:00 AM, Monday Mar 16th, 2009

www.poker.ladbrokes.com – This is a hand which took place between me and another notoriously aggressive player at my recent live game. Having seen my opponent pick up pots with large continuation bets on the flop several times, I decided to flat call his strong preflop raise from late position with (K,K). I knew the other players would almost certainly get out of the way as soon as it was clear they would be in a three way pot with myself and this player were they to call.

The flop came down (3,5,9) and my opponent immediately fired out a bet of 2,500. With a chip stack of about 15,000 and only slightly more than him, I felt I had a great chance to almost double up, if I played the hand correctly. There were no obvious dangers in particular, aside from the fact that he could have raised preflop with almost anything, but I decided to flat call hoping for another raise on the turn. The turn card brought an (8) and my opponent immediately announced he was all in. I was concerned about the straight obviously, but knowing this player well, I felt he could very easily have no hand at all if he felt I would put mine down to an all in bet.

I had hinted to this fact by flat calling on the flop and preflop, and I knew he had no idea I was as strong as (K,K). I called, to discover that he had (A,8) for second pair, and took down a big pot. I think this illustrates that when you are up against a player who loves to get involved and make aggressive moves, you have to adjust the way you play strong hands accordingly. poker.ladbrokes.com

Betfairpoker.com Review

Posted by Royal Flush Poker @ 12:00 AM, Monday Mar 9th, 2009

www.betfairpoker.com – Having spent so much time at a poker room which is visually stunning recently, I have to say that making the switch back to the older graphics of most other sites is not easy. This aspect of the Betfair is probably one area that can be improved, but with this negative point out of the way, let me mention some of the more positive points. There are weekly leaderboards in operation for SnG’s offering big cash prizes for the regular players who have the skill to consistently succeed at this type of tournament.

In terms of bonuses, the first time deposit bonus is paid in increments of $10 and is based entirely on the amount of points you earn playing onsite. The refer a friend bonus is extremely good here too, with $100 paid to you as the referring player, and $50 to the new player too. This could provide a very welcome boost to your funds if you have friends who enjoy playing poker. Betfair have a good young team of players sponsored by them too, which shows you that the site has the seal of approval from players who really take their poker seriously.

Telephone, fax, and e-mail options are there for help and support, but personally I like to see live chat options too. Despite this, support does it’s job well, being both reliable and knowledgable.
Holdem, Stud, and Omaha games are offered, which is what you would expect from most sites, and overall I think this poker room is good, although perhaps has a little room for improvement. Betfairpoker.com

Poker.ladbrokes.com – Tournament Payment Structures

Posted by Royal Flush Poker @ 12:00 AM, Monday Mar 2nd, 2009

www.poker.ladbrokes.com – Sometimes in live events, the prize money payout structure can heavily favour first place, and while you might expect a bigger jump in prize money the closer the placings get to first, the difference can often be surprising.

PLAY NOW

Perhaps this is why players have taken to making deals when there are not many left in a tournament. Personally it is my suspicion that this is partly why deals are so often made, but there are other reasons too. Many players feel that once the blinds become very big and the play is shorthanded, there is no room to make any plays and it is a simple case of shoving or folding. Despite the fact that the elevated blinds mean more aggressive plays being made, there is still plenty of skill in playing heads up and winning in this situation. The basic elements of the game are still the same after all, as you are attempting to get your chips in with the best hand. With far more bluffs being made, in some ways, this is easier to do than usual.

In some ways I agree that payout structures should pay well for first and second places. On the other hand though, there is so much hard work involved in even getting to a final table out of hundreds of people, that this should be well rewarded too. Deals in general are not so much of a bad thing if the game continues after the money side of things has been discussed, but to leave the game unfinished and not play heads up goes against the spirit of the game I feel.
